When Takiko was 13, the merchant Kamaji came to buy pottery from Goro. Takiko was now a beautful young lady. The merchant, slitly drunk, told her parents that she is supposed to be working in the palace. After a long doubt, her parents let her leave to the palace.When she arrived she was bathed and she put on some new clothes. After she plays her koto to the prince, she is invited to play to the emperor. After the visit to the emperor, she goes to the templet to pray. There she meets the princesses lover. He told her that he is leaving to the Genji tribe. Takiko is moved from the palace to the emperor house. Suddenly a war sarts and Takiko, the emperor and his mother have to go into hidding.

The IMPERIAL REGALIA, mentioned throughout this section of the book, consists of three sacred treasures;the sword Kusagi which stands for valor; the mirror Yata no kagami, for wisdom, and the jewel Yasakani no magatama for benevolence. The Regalia was used in the crowning ceremony to show that the emperor was the paramount ruler of Japan. However, these ceremonies were private and only the emperor and a few priests were there. Therefore, there are no pictures of the objects.
